This page explains how SAQL handles your files and data when you use the platform's tools.

The files you upload
Your files are used only to run the operation you requested from the chosen tool. They are never used for analysis, training, or any other purpose.
Browser vs. server processing
Some tools process your file entirely in your browser without uploading it anywhere. Others (like background removal and OCR) need a temporary upload to run the processing.
Advanced processing for text extraction
When both native text extraction and the local OCR engine fail to read a page at acceptable quality, SAQL may — if this feature is enabled — use an external AI provider (Anthropic) to read that specific page. In that case only an image of that page is sent to the provider, never your whole file, for the sole purpose of transcribing the visible text literally. We do not send your filename or any identifying information. SAQL keeps no copy of the image sent, and the extracted text is subject to the same automatic deletion window. The provider's handling of data is governed by its published API terms. This feature is off by default and is never used for pages that are read successfully locally.
Advanced PDF Tools & File Sharing (Phase 14)
Converting PDF to Word or PowerPoint, and enhancing scanned documents, happen entirely on our own servers with no external provider — including reading text inside embedded images when needed. Adding text and signatures to files happens entirely in your browser; a signature is never stored or logged. A Protect PDF password is used in memory only during processing and is never saved to the database or logs under any circumstance. When sharing a file via QR, the file is scanned for malware before sharing is enabled, and stored temporarily until the expiration you choose or the link is manually disabled; anyone with the share link or QR code can access the file.
Automatic deletion
The platform is designed to automatically delete temporary files after processing, per a retention period set in system settings.
Usage data
We may collect non-personal usage data (like which tool was used and how long processing took) to improve the service, without storing your file content or extracted text.
Advertising and Cookies
SAQL does not currently display any advertisements. If advertising is enabled in the future via Google AdSense, Google may use cookies to show relevant ads, and your prior consent will be requested where required by law before any personalized ad is shown. Your files or their contents are never shared with any advertising provider.
